Grand Theft Auto VI, commonly known as GTA 6 (also colloquially spelled "GTA VI", "GTA6" or "Grand Theft Auto 6"), is an upcoming open-world action game from Rockstar Games. The full, official name is "Grand Theft Auto VI"; the abbreviation "GTA 6" is colloquial but widely adopted. This text refers exclusively to this game, not other titles in the series.

What is confirmed

The trailers and screenshots show both planes and helicopters. That confirms the flying category in GTA 6 — from civilian machines to larger craft. Rockstar has not listed specific models.

The broader vehicle picture is already substantial: over 200 vehicles are confirmed to be in GTA 6 ^[1]. Aircraft form one part of that total, but Rockstar has not broken down how many of those vehicles are planes or helicopters.

Leonida from the air

What can be verified from official footage

One helicopter visible in official material resembles a light utility design with civilian applications. The real-world Bell 206L Long Ranger, which serves as a plausible reference point for that silhouette, seats seven people ^[2]. That does not confirm seating capacity in GTA 6; Rockstar stylises vehicles for its fictional world.

The same caution applies to flight characteristics. Real-world systems such as wire strike protection exist on helicopters like this class of machine. That system was invented by Nelson Chan in 1980 ^[2]. It is designed to cut a 3/8 in steel cable with a breaking strength of 12,000 lb ^[2]. It works when the helicopter strikes wires at an angle of less than 90° and at speeds above 30 knots ^[2]. Between 1974 and 1979, wire strike accidents accounted for 8% of United States Army aviation aircraft damage, 6% of aircraft-related injuries, and 16% of aircraft-related fatalities ^[2].

None of these parameters are confirmed for GTA 6 aircraft. They illustrate why drawing conclusions from visual resemblance alone is unreliable.

GTA 6 trailers show aircraft as part of the Leonida world, but Rockstar has not published a complete aircraft or helicopter catalogue. We can describe classes visible in the material, not build a model list from resemblance to real machines.

Rockstar stylises vehicles for its fictional world. A silhouette resembling a real aircraft does not confirm its name, performance or availability to the player. Each identification is tied to official material and separates observation from interpretation.

Aircraft matter mainly as a signal of world scale: Leonida includes a city, coastline and areas beyond Vice City. Map details belong in the separate Leonida article, rather than turning one frame into a claim about an entire airport network.

The same principle applies across vehicle categories. Lists circulating online that assign real-world model names to GTA 6 aircraft are speculative unless Rockstar confirms them directly.

Aircraft in the context of launch

GTA 6 launches on November 19 ^[3]. It currently has only one release date ^[3], with no early access option ^[3]. The game is launching on Xbox Series X/S and PS5 ^[3], not on PC at launch ^[3].

The standard edition costs $80 on both Xbox and PlayStation ^[3]. A $100 Deluxe edition also exists ^[3]. None of these editions change what aircraft are available; Rockstar has not tied vehicle access to purchase tier.

How flight fits into progression

In previous GTA titles, aircraft became available as players advanced through story missions or accumulated enough in-game money. Rockstar has not detailed how flight unlocks work in GTA 6.

What is clear from official material is that flying exists as an activity within Leonida's open world. Whether players access it through story progression, purchase, or simply finding aircraft at fixed locations remains unconfirmed.
