GTA 6 leaks: what is actually confirmed and what only circulates
The 2022 leak was real and ended in court. You will not find a single frame here — you will find what Rockstar has officially confirmed, and how to spot a fake.
The biggest leak in video game history really happened: in September 2022, 90 clips from an early build of Grand Theft Auto VI were stolen from Rockstar Games. You will not find them on this page, and they will tell you nothing reliable about the game launching on 19 November 2026. This article explains what happened, why four-year-old footage is useless as a source, and how to check any circulating rumour in about fifteen seconds.
GTA 6, GTA VI and Grand Theft Auto VI are the same game: Rockstar always writes the numeral in Roman form, while players and search engines use the Arabic one. "GTA 6 leak" in practice means the September 2022 intrusion — not to be confused with official promotional material or with dates that storefronts published early.
The GTA 6 leak of 2022: what actually happened
The 2022 leak actually happened: the breach of Rockstar systems was real and the case ended in a British court. The attacker took 90 clips of an early build from Rockstar systems and posted them online. The perpetrator, a member of the Lapsus$ group, was placed under an indefinite hospital order; a second member, seventeen at the time, received an eighteen-month youth rehabilitation order. The BBC report from the hearing also records the scale of the damage: Rockstar told the court that recovering from the hack cost the company five million dollars plus thousands of staff hours [4].
The court also heard how simple the equipment was — after his laptop was confiscated, the attacker used a hotel television, a streaming stick and a phone. That detail says more about security posture than about the game.
Why we do not publish GTA 6 leak material
We do not publish it for three reasons: legal, practical and human. We also do not link to where the material is hosted.
- The law. It is someone else’s property, taken from company systems. Redistribution does not become legal because somebody did it first.
- Uselessness. The clips showed an early production build. The game has had two official trailers and a delay since then — describing today’s version with four-year-old footage means describing something that no longer exists.
- The cost. Five million dollars and thousands of hours is the work of the people making this game, burned on cleanup.
What Rockstar has officially confirmed about GTA 6
Seven things are confirmed: the date, the platforms, the protagonists, the setting, the editions, the absence of a PC version and the timing of the next material. Each comes from a Rockstar statement [1][2], not from a rumour.
| Question | Status | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|
| Release date | Thursday, 19 November 2026 | Rockstar statement, 6 November 2025 |
| Platforms | PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S | GTA VI site |
| PC version | not announced | no statement of any kind |
| Protagonists | Jason and Lucia | GTA VI site |
| Setting | Vice City, state of Leonida | GTA VI site |
| Editions | Standard and Ultimate | GTA VI site |
| Next material | "An Extended Look", 27 August 2026 | Newswire, 6 August 2026 |
Grand Theft Auto VI will now release on Thursday, November 19, 2026. These extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve.
Rockstar Games, statement of 6 November 2025
Note what the table does not contain. No PC version, no list of vehicle models, no story detail beyond a single paragraph of description. Anything circulating beyond that range is guesswork or leak material, however confident it sounds.
When the next official GTA VI material arrives
The next official material arrives on 27 August 2026 [3]. "An Extended Look" premieres on Netflix at 3 p.m. Eastern, and at 9 p.m. Eastern it arrives on Rockstar’s official YouTube channel and on the game’s website. The Newswire announcement gives both times.
That is the best available test for fake leaks. Material circulating today as supposed "new gameplay" is about to acquire a hard reference point, and most of it will not survive the comparison.
How to spot a fake GTA 6 leak in fifteen seconds
Five questions filter out most fakes before you finish watching.
- Is it an official channel? Rockstar publishes through Newswire, its own YouTube channel and the game site. Nothing genuine debuts on an anonymous account.
- Is there a source, or just an "insider"? An unnamed informant is not a source.
- Does the date hold up? A large share of "new leaks" is recycled 2022 footage presented as fresh.
- Does it contradict what is confirmed? An alleged map that conflicts with the official trailers rules itself out.
- Who profits? A fake leak is cheap to make and highly profitable in reach. That is a business model, not a mistake.
Where to check GTA 6 information yourself
You can check GTA 6 information yourself in four places — two official and two of ours. On the official side, two addresses are enough: the Grand Theft Auto VI site and Rockstar Newswire. On ours, confirmed information sits in a few places: official GTA 6 facts, the release date and our second trailer analysis. Worth a separate look is vehicles shown in the trailers — that article was built on exactly the same principle as this one: Rockstar confirmed vehicle types, so we write about types, not about model names circulating online.
